José Peña

SVP, Retail Group Manager

Fifth Third Bank

José Peña is Senior Vice President and Group Head of Retail Banking for the Fifth Third Bank Chicago region serving Illinois, Indiana and Southwest MI.

Mr. Pena is a member of the bank’s regional executive management team responsible for guiding the region’s business, overseeing more than $15 billion in assets and 1900+ employees, along with execution of the bank’s strong commitment of investment in all the communities it serves.

Mr. Peña who hails from the Southside of Chicago has a 32+ year career in banking, 16 years at Fifth Third Bank, including a prior role as regional head of the bank’s community development. Prior to his current role as Retail Group Manager in Chicago, Mr. Pena led the bank’s retail business in its Florida region.

Mr. Peña attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Graduate School of Banking at Furman University, the National School of Banking, and the Executive Leadership Program through the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds his Series 7, Series 63 and Series 24 licenses.

Mr. Peña serves on the corporate advisory board for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Board of Trustee with Junior Achievement and on the Advisory Board of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2016, he was named among the “Who’s Who of Hispanic Chicago” by Negocios Now Newspaper. Most recently, José is recognized as one of the Business Leaders of Color by Chicago United. He and his family reside in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago.

 

Diane Cruz-Burke

Chief Operating Officer, Legal

Diane Cruz-Burke is a native Indiana Hoosier of Puerto Rican descent born in Gary, Indiana and raised most of her childhood years in Knox, Indiana, a small northern Indiana farming town. 

After graduating from Knox High School, her parents encouraged her to pursue a college education enabling her to become the first in her family to graduate from college.  She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in accounting and then went on to attend and graduate from Harvard Law School.  Following law school, she moved to Indianapolis to start her legal career at Barnes & Thornburg.  Three years later, she accepted an in-house attorney position at Eli Lilly and Company where she has remained employed in a variety of legal roles for over 23 years. 

Currently, Ms. Cruz-Burke is serving as the Chief Operations Officer for Lilly’s Legal Division.  Prior to becoming COO for Lilly Legal, she served as legal counsel for Lilly’s Global and US marketing organizations and as a Six Sigma Black Belt. She has also had international legal responsibilities including serving as counsel for Lilly’s affiliates in Japan, Central & Eastern Europe, Africa, Russia and the Middle East. 

Her wide-ranging legal responsibilities have enabled Ms. Cruz-Burke to see many parts of the world, travelling to over 38 countries and living overseas in Vienna, Austria for two years.  Since arriving in Indianapolis in 1991, Ms. Cruz-Burke has been steadily active in the Indianapolis community.  She is a past President of the Board for the Hispanic Center (one of the original organizations that was merged into today’s La Plaza) and a past President of the Organization of Latinos at Lilly. 

She is a long-standing supporter of the United Way of Central Indiana, having been a member of the Arduth Burkhart Leadership group and also serving as Chairman of the United Way Diversity Leadership Circle.  She is an advocate for diversity and inclusion, receiving Lilly’s inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Community Champion Award in 2013 and La Plaza’s Community Leader Award in 2017.  In the education community, she is a past Board Member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and is a current Board Member of Providence Cristo Rey High School. She also serves as an advisor to the Young Innovators Quest program sponsored by Health & Science Innovation.  Ms. Cruz-Burke is happily married to her husband, Craig Burke (also an attorney), for over 28 years and is the proud mother of Alexia, Lucas and Isabella.  

Susana Duarte de Suarez

Susana Duarte De Suarez’s story spans leadership positions as an elected official, a political appointee and an experienced executive working inside and outside of government. She has earned a reputation as a tireless champion for education attainment, economic empowerment and corporate social responsibility.

Susana serves as Councilwoman at Large and is past President of the Zionsville Town Council; she is the Vice President of the Zionsville Safety Board and President of the Board of Police Commissioners. Susana also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Gov. Daniels appointed her to that position in 2010 to help oversee the missions, budgets and plans of the state’s public colleges and universities.

In business, Susana is the head of the Neurological Diagnostic Institute project and immediate past head of communications for Governor Holcomb. She is president and CEO of Media Moon Communications, a global communications firm based in Zionsville. Prior to re-launching her company, Susana lead global communications and corporate affairs for Allegion, a $2 billion security-solutions company based in Carmel, Ind. Susana has held high-profile senior executive positions and leadership posts with Holcim, Inc., CEMEX and Anheuser-Busch Companies.

While based in DC early in her career, Susana was appointed to several senior leadership positions by President Bush – first as the Assistant Director for Regional Operations for FEMA where she was instrumental in the response to 9/11 and the recovery; then as CCO for The Peace Corps overseeing operations in over 120 countries. She served as executive director of the Hispanic International Trade Council, and deputy director for political coalitions with the Republican National Committee.

Susana currently serves on a wide variety of boards and civic organizations including the Indiana International Center and Christel House Academy. Previous board service includes the Indianapolis Opera, International School and Gateway to College, amongst many. Susana has also received numerous honors for her work in business, government and civic engagement.

Susana earned a bachelor’s degree in political science specializing in national security policy studies from the Ohio State University and is a graduate of the Senior Management Program at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. She and her husband live in Zionsville and have two young children.

Isaac Torres

President and Founder

Born in Mexico, Isaac Torres and his wife Conchita Villa are residents of Granger, IN. Isaac is a CPA with an accounting degree from the National University of Mexico, where he worked as a senior auditor for Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC). He came to the United States in 1995 as an international student at IU South Bend, where he earned his MBA at the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics in 2000.

While working on his MBA, Isaac saw a need to help immigrants provide wire transfers to their families. His professor’s review of a marketing plan ultimately led to his founding of InterCambio Express in 1999, which has grown into a multi-million dollar financial services company that specializes in wiring funds between Hispanic foreign nationals in the US to family and friends in Mexico, Central and South America. Based in Elkhart, InterCambio Express now has more than 1,600 locations in 32 states.  In 2008, InterCambio was recognized as one of “50 Indiana Companies to Watch.”

Isaac and Conchita are generous and active in their community. They established the Isaac P. Torres Family School of Business and Economics Scholarship at IU South Bend that supports low-income business students with big dreams, and funded the renovation of IUSB’s E-Commerce Lab. Isaac serves on the Women’s Care Center Board in Elkhart County, as well as The Community Foundation of Elkhart County, Northern Indiana Key Bank Advisory Board, IU South Bend Business Advisory Council, and St. Joe CEO Board member. Isaac Torres received the 2011 Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics Distinguished Alumni Award.
Tonight, we welcome Isaac and Conchita to the President’s Circle. Children’s names: Isaac Torres-Villa, Kevin Torres-Villa, and Aaron Torres-Villa. Interests: Triathlons, golf, soccer, and traveling.

Seth Morales

Seth is President of Morales Group.  In 2005, Seth brought his business determination and passion for building meaningful relationships to the Morales Group. Led by an outstanding character and drive to surpass expectations, Seth quickly rose to a management position. His ability to think outside the box has enabled him to excel.

As a leader at MGI, Seth validates why MGI is one of the best places to work in Indiana. Seth was elected by Governor Pence to serve on the Indiana Commission for Hispanic Latino Affairs and volunteers with Project Stepping Stone, a college prep program that helps Hispanic high school students successfully prepare for college and beyond. In addition, Seth was a three-year starter and honorary captain of the Purdue Big Ten Championship Football team that played in the 2001 Rose Bowl.

Before coming to MGI, Seth worked at Ricoh Business Systems focusing on business development. He earned his BA from Purdue University and completed his MBA from the University of Notre Dame.

Committed to servant leadership in his professional and personal life, his Christian faith paves the way in all decisions. He and his wife, Jackie, enjoy traveling, watching Liverpool FC and are proud parents of their son, Sebastián Mateo.
