Your Path to Leadership Roles on Government Boards and Commissions in the Education Sector by the Latina Circle

Facilitated by Greater Boston Latino Network (GBLN) and leaders on education issues, this workshop will guide you through the process of inserting yourself in positions of influence.

In order for Latino families to thrive, become self-sufficient and have greater access to opportunities, our children must receive a quality education. Education is one of the most important issues impacting Latinos yet we are lacking representation at every level - from Parent Councils to the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. In Boston, 41.8% of the Boston Public School students are Latino. Unfortunately, many are underperforming or failing to graduate.

In reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in December 2015, the U.S. Congress reaffirmed its commitment to two key priorities for the nation’s education system: excellence and equity.

In this workshop you will learn about the Massachusetts ESSA Plan and opportunities to become a leader on education issues

WHEN: Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
